Homicide detectives left empty-handed last week after a backyard search for the remains of a Japanese American woman who disappeared 15 years ago.
Ann Mineko Racz was last seen on April 22, 1991, dropping off her three children at the home of her estranged husband, John Racz. Her car was discovered days later at an airport parking lot. Last Friday, sheriff’s homicide detectives entered John Racz’s home in Valencia with a search warrant. They picked up disturbances using ground-penetrating radar devices, said Lt. Joe Hartshorne. They returned the next day but found nothing.
“It’s just another step in a long, ongoing investigation,” said Lt. Hartshorne, who told reporters on Saturday he believed Racz is most likely dead. |
John Racz was home during the investigation, but did not speak to reporters. He is considered a suspect in the case but has never been charged in connection. Detectives and coroner’s officials spent over five hours digging the ground and also used a dog trained to sniff out corpses. Homicide detectives are trying to figure out their next step.
“It’s such a mystery and we need to find out what happened,” said Hartshorne.
