Asia Home of Language Entertainment (AHOLE-TV) is on the air. The comedy troup known as TeleMongol has produced a sketch comedy production of a fictional Asian American television station. The result is a sometimes shocking and controversial look at Asians, the media and sexuality. With bits such as a talk show hosted by local nail salon owner Dr. Pho and a reality show, “the Asian Surreal Life,” there is almost no issue too taboo for laughs.
TeleMongol is a collaboration of Los Angeles Asian American performing arts organizations Lodestone Theatre Ensemble, Cold Tofu Improv, OPM and 18 Mighty Mountain Warriors. It runs though Dec. 17 at the GTC Burbank, 1111-B W. Olive Ave., Burbank. |

Coming from six years of directing sitcoms such as “Moesha” and “The King of Queens,” as well as, Lloyd Suh’s play “Masha No Home” for East West Players, veteran TV director Henry Chan also adds its leadership to the mix.

When experiencing this show, make sure to bring with you a great sense of humor and leave any convictions you might have at home. They won’t do you any good at the show. From beginning to end, the jokes get progressively edgier and borderline offensive. Just remember, it’s all in the spirit of spreading awareness of issues present in everyday media. Issues, while not packed into one time slot, as they are in AHOLE TV, are out there nonetheless.
The show is a rollercoaster of awkward jokes and sexual themes. Current events mixed with social commentary, Asian American history with pop movies and then throw in a good old Dr. Phil spoof just for that extra added kick; AHOLE TV just keeps the jokes rolling. And just to add to the holiday flavor there is a special holiday show with our host Korean dictator Kim Jong Il and his friends. |
