Michie Jean (oishi) esaki, age 86, passed away peacefully at home on
July 25th after a brief illness. Jean was born in Gardena, cali-
fornia, on April 8, 1924, graduated from Gardena High School in 1942
and was confned during WWII at the Gila River, Ariz., concentration
camp where she met her husband, George teruo esaki. Married at the
Little tokyo nishi Hongwangi temple in 1946, they moved to George’s
hometown of Monterey, calif., where she was a lifetime resident. She
was very active in the Monterey Buddhist temple, JAcL, and was a
volunteer at the Monterey Bay Aquarium.

She was predeceased by her husband, George and her sisters, Kiyoko
oishi and emiko Matsu-moto. She is survived by her sons, John (Amy e.
Kato) and Howard (Robin Demagistris); her eldest sister, Kay Seki;
and several nieces and nephews and relatives in Japan. in accordance
with her wishes, a private service was held on July 31 at the
Monterey Buddhist temple. in lieu of monetary offerings, con-
tributions can be sent in her name to the Monterey Buddhist temple,
Monterey JAcL or the Japanese American national
