WEST COVINA — The East San Gabriel Valley Japanese Community Center will present its 2012 Akimatsuri Fall Festival on Saturday, Oct. 6, from 12 to 8 p.m. at ESGVJCC, 1203 W. Puente Ave. in West Covina.

The event, which is free and open to the public, will feature a variety of performances and demonstrations. The tentative schedule is as follows:

2 p.m. — West Covina Shinkendo

2:30 p.m. — Minyo Station

3 p.m. — Covina Kendo Dojo

3:30 p.m. — Nippon Minyo Kenkyukai, Kotobuki Kai

4 p.m. — Fujima Kansei Odori-Kai

4:30 p.m. — Eibukan Goju Ryu Karate Do

5 p.m. — West Covina Judo Dojo

5:30 p.m. — Kishin Daiko

Visitors will be welcome to partipate in ondo (Japanese dancing).

Foods available for purchase include teriyaki chicken, udon, taiyaki, yakisoba, chicken curry, chili rice, gyoza, snow cones and more.

There will also be games for children, cultural exhibits and a raffle drawing.

All proceeds will benefit ESGVJCC, a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering and preserving the cultural heritage unique to Japanese American ancestry, and to serving the community through social services and artistic, recreational and educational programs.

Upcoming ESGVJCC events include the 15th annual Akimatsuri Golf Tournament on Monday, Oct. 8, at Via Verde Country Club in San Dimas (registration starts at 9 a.m.) and the Family Health Fair on Saturday, Nov. 3, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the center.
