Huell Howser stops to shake hands with the crowds gathered on Second Street for the 2007 Nisei Week Grand Parade. The Los Angeles Times reported that the folksy reporter has decided to retire from producing new episodes of his public television program, “California’s Gold.” Through his many years of work, Howser often touched upon Japanese American topics, including the dedication of the Aoyama Tree in 2008, and a trip to Manzanar to profile singer Mary Kageyama Nomura and artist Henry Fukuhara.
