George Jitsutaro Akiyama was born March 12, 1936 and passed away on Feb. 11, 2013 in Los Angeles after a brief illness.
He was the third child of four children and the only son of Einosuke and Fusa Akiyama.
He was predeceased by his parents and oldest sister Yuko.
During World War II, George was sent along with his family to Rohwer Relocation camp in Arkansas.
He was a mentally challenged gentle son who loved to go to church, to watch people around him and go for rides in cars.
George is survived by his sisters Joan Nakashima and Barbara Akiyama; a nephew Ken Nakashima; and a niece Julie Nakashima.
A private memorial service was held on Feb. 23, 2013 at Tenrikyo Southern California Church officiated by Rev. Tomoo Murakami.
