Laurie Akemi (Fukunaga) Lam (Feb 1964-Mar 2012). Loving wife to Peter (19 yrs) and devoted mother of three. Laurie passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and friends, after a courageous 23-month battle with cancer. Laurie will be forever remembered by parents Bob and Tucky Fukunaga, and siblings Leslie Yano and Chris Fukunaga, along with extended family and friends in numerous communities near and far.
Laurie touched the lives of countless people and maintained her trademark sense of humor until the very end. She was known for her warm spirit that instantly made strangers into friends, her love of travel, her zest for life, her overwhelming generosity, her loyalty as a Bruin fan, and her amazing ability to find shopping bargains. She’d often admonish others to “Never pay full price!”
Laurie’s Christian faith inspired many and continues to reach even those whom she had never personally met. Her life was a living testimony of God’s faithfulness and his saving grace. Her desire was to see all come to know the living Savior and to join her in heaven some day. A few of her favorite verses were: Phil 4:6-7 and 4:13; 2 Timothy 4:7-8.
Private family funeral and burial services were held on Tuesday, March 27, 2012. Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service on Saturday, April 14th at 10:30 am at Seacoast Grace Church (5100 Cerritos Avenue, Cypress, CA 90630). Reception will follow immediately after service.
Laurie’s family has set up a memorial fund to ensure that her generosity and care for others continues. Donations may be sent to Wintersburg Church at 2000 N. Fairview St., Santa Ana, CA 92706. Please write checks payable to “Wintersburg Church” with “Laurie Lam Memorial Fund” written in the memo line.
