Public memorial service for the late Dr. Shigeru Kawanami, 83-year-old Fukuoka, Japan-born naturalized U.S. citizen who passed away on July 26 will be held on Saturday, Aug. 20, 11 a.m. at Green Hills Memorial Chapel, 27501 S. Western Ave., Rancho Palos Verdes, California 90275.
He is survived by wife, Shirley Kawanami; sons, Dean (Chiaki) Yamashita and Craig (Emi) Yamashita of Tokyo, Japan; granddaughter, Leila Yamashita; brother, George Kawanami; sisters, Hiroko (Jim) Yamamoto, Sadako (Dr. John) Okada, and Chiyoko (Bob) Wada; sister-in-law, Tokiko “Tish” Kawanami; brothers-in-law, Samuel Naito of Portland, Oregon, and Ken Iwashina; also survived by many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
