Beloved patriarch of the Sakamoto family, Shigeru Sakamoto (88), born in Staten Island, New York on Feb. 15, 1926, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at his home in Friendly Hills, Whittier, Calif. on Oct. 5. Mr. Sakamoto was laid to rest at Forest Lawn – Hollywood Hills on Saturday, Oct. 25.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Toshiko Sakamoto; daughter, Yuko Sakamoto; son-in-law, Vic Jacobs; grandson, Stoney Sakamoto; and extended family in Japan and New York. Shigeru will be remembered for his wisdom and pioneering samurai spirit, which lives on in each of us.
