Tomi Muranaga
Tomi Muranaga, 85-year-old, Gardena-born Nisei and Veteran of the Korean War, Non-Conflict peacefully passed away on June 13, 2021 with his family and cat, Smokey by his side. A graveside service will be held on Monday, July 19, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Eternal Valley Memorial Park, 23287 Sierra Hwy, Newhall, 91321. The burial site location will be at the top of the hill at Veteran Memorial Wall. There will be a repast immediately following the burial in Valencia. Map and directions will be given at the burial. Please let the family know if you plan on attending and they kindly request Aloha attire.
Before he lost his eyesight, he loved deep-sea fishing, activities with VFW Post 4140 and his group of friends from high school. He was an active member at the SFVJACC and enjoyed the senior citizen hot meal program twice a week. He was a member of the country western group and was known as the Japanese Country Crooner. He enjoyed his time “talk story” and enjoying homemade snacks that everyone shared. His ohana away from home.
He is predeceased by his brother, Kiyoshi (Medal of Honor), Yoshio and Kenichi. He is survived by his sisters, Sally Hamamoto, Susie Fujimoto, Hiroko Torii, Terrie (Al) Suyemoto, and Reiko Nakagawa; sister-in-law, Yoshiko Muranaga (Las Vegas); loving long-time caregiver and niece, Jennifer Hamamoto; also survived by other nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
