Tomi Muranaga

Tomi Muranaga, 85-year-old, Gardena-born Nisei and Veteran of the Korean War, Non-Conflict peacefully passed away on June 13, 2021, with his family and cat, Smokey by his side. A private funeral service will be held at a later date.

Before he lost his eyesight, he loved deep-sea fishing, activities with VFW Post 4140 and his group of friends from high school. He was an active member at the SFVJACC and enjoyed the senior citizen hot meal program twice a week. He was a member of the country western group and was known as the Japanese Country Crooner. He enjoyed his time “talking story” and enjoying homemade snacks that everyone shared. His ohana away from home.

He is predeceased by his brother Kiyoshi (Medal of Honor), Yoshio and Kenichi. He is survived by his sisters: Sally Hamamoto, Susie Fujimoto, Hiroko Torii, Terrie (Al) Suyemoto, and Reiko Nakagawa; sister-in-law, Yoshiko Muranaga (Las Vegas); loving long-time caregiver and niece, Jennifer Hamamoto; also survived by other nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
