Tsutomu Ota, 72, born in Yamagata, Japan, passed peacefully at his home in Monterey Park, surrounded by family on Wednesday, April 17, 2019. He was the owner of Modern Marketing, a business which he and his wife continued after Modern Food Market (1946-1996) located in Little Tokyo. Tsutomu enjoyed golfing, gardening, watching sports, and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Marina Ota; children, James (Robyn), Seika and Jaimie Ota; granddaughter, Emi Ota; and mother-in-law, Yoshiko Watamura. He is also survived by nieces, nephews and other relatives here in the U.S. and in Japan.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, May 26, 2 p.m. at Hompa Hongwanji Buddhist Temple, 815 E. First St. in Los Angeles.
