PBS SoCal will broadcast “Our American Family: The Furutas” in Southern California in advance of the rest of the country.

The documentary tells the story of the Furuta family, who immigrated from Japan and established a home and farm in Orange County. It also chronicles Historic Wintersburg, a thriving prewar Japanese American community in what is now Huntington Beach.

Broadcast dates are Saturday, Feb. 28, at 4 a.m.; Sunday, March 1, at 7 p.m.; and Saturday, March 7, at 4 a.m.

All broadcasts are on PBS SoCalPlus, which reaches the Los Angeles market over the air on Channel 50.2 and is carried on all major cable television systems serving the region, including Cox Cable (Channel 810), Charter Cable (Channel 197 or 314), Time Warner Cable (Channel 1267), and Verizon FiOS (Channel 470).

PBS SoCal is also carried over the air on Channel 50.2 in the Santa Barbara area and in the Santa Ynez Valley.
