WESTMINSTER — Kazuo Masuda Memorial VFW Post 3670 will hold its annual Memorial Day service on Monday, May 27, at 3 p.m. at Westminster Memorial Park, 14801 Beach Blvd. in Westminster.

Kazuo Masuda

Memorial Day is set aside to remember all those who were killed in action in all of America’s wars, and as a reminder of the thousands still held as prisoners of war or missing in action. This event pays tribute to the deceased members of VFW Post 3670 and all deceased veterans at the gravesite of S/Sgt. Kazuo Masuda.

Born in 1918 in Orange County, Masuda was a Nisei World War II war hero whose story played an important role in the redress move-ment. A staff sergeant in the 442nd Regimental Combat Team, he was killed in action in Italy in 1944. His exploits — and the discrimination his family in California continued to face despite them — received a great deal of publicity at the time and led to his Distinguished Service Cross being personally awarded to the family by Gen. Joseph Stilwell in 1945. (Densho)

Come at 2:30 p.m. to see people’s displays of their loved ones who served this nation.
