Hideko (Grandma) Endo, 98, passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 28, 2024. She lived a beautiful life full of hard work, happy memories, laughter, and resilience. She had a knack for making new friends, creating laughter, and joy. Born in Syracuse, Utah to Asakichi and Hanako, she moved to Japan for school when she was 5 years old. She graduated from Futaba High School in Shizuoka, Japan, a prestigious institution of which she was very proud. Upon returning to the United States, she helped at her uncle’s fish market. She met her future husband, Yosaku Endo there. They were married June 27, 1949, in Los Angeles, Calif. All five of their children were born in the Los Angeles area. She and her family moved to Oxnard, Calif. in 1960, due to the relocation of the family flower business. She enjoyed spending time with her family, sewing, crocheting, playing slots, and planning traditional family gatherings. She was involved in the Lions Club through Yosaku and assisted her daughter who was a teacher. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her daughter, Judy. She is survived by her children, Susan Hamada (Christopher), Tony Endo (Sheri), Karen Takahashi (Howard), and Lois Downey (Tim). She is also survived by many grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren.
Memorial service will be held Saturday, November 16, 11 a.m. at Evergreen Cemetery Gravesite with Rev. Shumyo Kojima of Zenshuji Soto Mission officiating. The family kindly requests casual attire. In lieu of koden and flowers, Grandma would have wanted you to create memories with your families.
