
TORRANCE — Japanese Movie Night will take place on Sunday, Jan.19, at 2:30 p.m. at Faith United Methodist Church, 2115 W. 182nd St., Torrance.
This month’s movie is Hirokazu Koreeda’s “After the Storm” (2016). After the death of his father, a private detective struggles to find child support money and reconnect with his son and ex-wife. The cast includes Hiroshi Abe, Yoko Maki and Satomi Kobayashi.
The Japanese title is “Umi Yori mo Mada Fukaku” (Even Deeper Than the Ocean).
In its review, The Village Voice said, “Hirokazu Kore-eda isn’t just one of the world’s best filmmakers, but one of its most indispensable artists.”
Free admission and popcorn. There will be a short reflection after the film.
