NEW YORK — Women’s world record holder Miki Sudo of Tampa, Fla. won her 11th title on July 4 at the annual Nathan’s Famous International Hot Dog Eating Contest.

Sudo consumed 33 weiners and buns in 10 minutes during the contest, which is part of the Major League Eating circuit.

The other top five finishers were Michelle Lesco of Tucson (22 3/4), Danielle DiSapia of Seattle (21.5), Tandra Childress of San Francisco (17), and Katie Prettyman of Marysville, Wash. (13 1/8).

Sudo expressed disappointment that she did not surpass the women’s all-time record of 51 hot dogs, which she set last year.

“I heard people in the crowd saying, ‘Go for 52,’” she told ESPN. “Obviously, I’m always setting my goals high, but the hot dogs just weren’t cooperating. For some reason, the buns felt larger today.”

Sudo’s other records:

Vanilla ice cream: 16.5 pints in 6 minutes, 2017

Kimchi: 8.5 lbs. in 6 minutes, 2013

Wild rice hotdish: 14 lbs. in 8 minutes, 2019

Corn dogs: 21 in 8 minutes, 2022

Steamed fish balls: 368 in 8 minutes, 2023

Cheese slices: 348 in 8 minutes, 2023

Steamed pork buns: 39.5 in 8 minutes, 2023

Glazed donuts: 87 in 8 minutes, 2023

The male and overall winner on July 4 was Joey Chestnut of Westfield, Ind., who ate 70.5 hot dogs and buns for his 17th title. Major League Eating banned him from the contest last year because he struck a deal with plant-based food company Impossible Foods.

Chestnut also failed to break his own world record — 76 hot dogs at this event in 2021.

The other top five finishers were last year’s winner, Patric Bertoletti of Chicago (46.5), James Webb of Sydney, Australia (45.5), Geoffrey Esper of Oxford, Mass. (43 7/8), and Nick Wehry of Tampa (41 3/4).

Sudo, Chestnut and other competitors were regulars at Day Lee Foods’ gyoza eating contest, which was held until recently during Nisei Week in Little Tokyo.
