Mitsuwa Marketplace held a grand opening for its new location in Cypress on Nov. 1.
Hundreds of people lined up to be the first customers at the 18,025-square-foot store, located at 4955 Katella Ave. The first 100 each received a free “Happy Bag.” A performance by TaikoProject was part of the festivities.

Dignitaries on hand included Mitsuwa Corp. President and CEO Takeshi Izuma and Cypress Mayor David Burke, Mayor Pro Tem Leo Medrano, and City Councilmember Kyle Chang. The store’s manager is Yudai Ogata, who wore traditional Japanese garb as he greeted customers.

In addition to Mitsuwa’s selection of Japanese groceries, the Cypress marketplace features an expanded hot and cold deli offering sushi, bento, and seasonal specialties made in the store.

The food court includes Santouka, Omusubi Gonbei, Tokyo Shokudo, J. Sweets, and Yamari.

Taking the place of an Office Depot, the Cypress location is Mitsuwa’s third store in Orange County.

Store hours: 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. For more information, call (714) 277-3072 or visit: https://mitsuwa.com/cy/
