Kiyoshi Kuromiya

Monrovia Area Partnership and Monrovia Art in Public Places present Kiyoshi Kuromiya’s Neighborhood Treasure Celebration on Saturday, May 2, at 11 a.m. at 934 Royal Oak Dr. in Monrovia.

The celebration will include the unveiling of a marker in Kuromiya’s honor, music, free food, and more.

Born in the Heart Mountain camp in Wyoming during World War II and raised in Monrovia, Kuromiya (1943-2000) was a nationally recognized Asian American and LGBTQ+ rights activist. He had a lifelong commitment to justice, including civil rights work alongside Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Later in life he became a leading AIDS and civil liberties advocate.
