Seiichi “Bill” Akiyama, born Dec. 8, 1909, joined his wife, Fusayo “Fay” of 62 years on July 17, just 5 months shy of his 100th birthday. Beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, he is survived by son, William Akiyama and his wife, Sue; daughter, Lorraine Akiyama Torres and husband, Manuel; grandsons, Brandon, Jonathan and Grant Akiyama; granddaughter, Sonia Hernandez and husband, Gabriel; and two great-granddaughters, Fay and Leila Hernandez. “Grandpa,” born in Berkeley spent his childhood years in Japan, was interned in Tule Lake during WWII, spent most of his life in Los Angeles where he owned “Bill’s Corner Market,” managed a meat packing company for 27 years, and moved to Sacramento 16 years ago.
A celebration of life will be Saturday, July 25, 3 p.m. at Sky Rose Chapel, Rose Hills, Los Angeles.
