Takeru “Tak” Fukuman passed away on Dec.15 at his Torrance home. He was born March 13, 1916 in Los Angeles, and he grew up in Kokubu-shi, Kagoshima-ken. Takeru came back to work on his uncle’s San Pedro Nishinaka Farm. He harvested sugar beets in Utah with his Mori Family cousins during WWII. He learned to ice skate and bowl as a Hotel Utah employee in the kitchen. He returned to San Pedro as a self-employed gardener. He was a member of the Gardena Gar¬dener’s association, and had fun bowling. Tak learned to dance and enjoyed ballroom dancing until his 91st birthday.
Preceded in death by siblings, Tsugio of Gardena, Mitsuru and Tokie Tokuda of Kagoshima. He is survived by his children, Takeyoshi, Tom, Nancy, and Sachiko; and his three grandchil¬dren, Jason, Audrey, and Kenji Fortune. Private services will be held at Higashi Honganji in Los Angeles.
