A “Celebration of Life” memorial service for the late Rev. Arthur Makoto Tsuneishi, 89-year-old, Monrovia, Calif.-born Nisei resident of Torrance who went to be with the Lord on Jan. 11 will be held on Friday, Jan. 29, 11 a.m. at Journey of Faith, 1243 Artesia Blvd., Manhattan Beach, Calif. A second memorial service will be held at the San Lorenzo Holiness Church in late February. The Tsuneishi Family requests that in lieu of flowers a donation be made to OMS Holiness Church of North America, c/o “Rev. Art Tsuneishi Seminary Scholarship Fund” and mailed to OMS Holiness Church of North America, c/o Doris Chinen, 3668 Rocky Shore Court, Vallejo, CA, 94591.Arthur attended public schools in Duarte, Monrovia and later Pasadena City College. During WWII he was sent to Heart Mountain Relocation Center, but was referred for medical treatment of a spinal condition to Poston, Ariz. where he accepted Christ after a visit from a minister. Following the war, he attended UCLA and completed his degree from the California Baptist Theological Seminary. In 1953 he began his lifelong work as a Pastor for various Japanese-American Christian Churches including the Holiness Churches of Honolulu, Los Angeles, San Diego, and San Lorenzo. He retired from the pastorate in 1989 and served as the Executive Secretary of the OMS Holiness Conference. He also assisted in various capacities within the community including the Japanese Evangelical Missionary Society (JEMS), various Japanese community Centers and the Mt. Hermon Conference. Having been a track athlete in his youth, Arthur also had a lifelong passion for sports.
Arthur is survived by his wife of 61 years, Sally; sons, Jonathan, Mark (DeeAnn), Chris (Janice); daughters, Koko (Rod) Yee, Gail (Fred) Wagner, Lani (John) Fredrick, Carol, and Julie (Wyatt) Loo; grandchildren, Erin, Josh, Ruth, Nathan, Annie, Kyle, Timothy, Emma, Lauren, Jordan, Ethan, Ryan, Brendan and Makena; brothers, Warren (Betty), Paul (Akio), Noel, and Yoshi (Fumi); sisters, Frances, and Rose (Jack).
