Fumio Yoshida, 89, of Gardena passed away on Jan. 4, 2011. Born in Waipahu, Hawaii on Nov. 20, 1921.
He worked for the L.A. Unified School District as a typewriter repairman for 27 years before retiring.
He is survived by his companion of 29 years, Ayako Raut, his three children, Naomi Yoshida, Robert Yoshida and Barbara Ann Sar-miento, 8 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was an Army veteran and a founding member of the Nisei Singles (now called the Nikkei Singles). He was very active in several organizations including We Are One, and Nisei DAV Chapter 100. He is well remembered as Santa Claus for the Keiro facilities in Boyle Heights.
Service will be held Saturday, Jan. 8, 2011 at 3 p.m. at Gardena Valley Baptist Church, 1630 W. 158th St., Gardena, CA 90247.
