Mrs. Harumi Inouye of Los Angeles, passed away on Jan. 4, 2011. A private burial service with immediate family members was held on Saturday, Jan. 8, 2011 at Evergreen Cemetery in Los Angeles with Reverend Hiroshi Abiko of Hompa Hongwanji Buddhist Temple presiding.
Active, cheerful and athletic, Mrs. Inouye was married for 60 years to the late Susumu Inouye. She was a devoted mother of two sons, Alan and Randy. She actively supported all of their endeavors and served as president of the PTA of Short Elementary School and Marina Del Rey Junior High School. Mrs. Inouye coached girls’ sports teams for several years and in 1983, she received recognition as one of the founders of the Southern California Women’s Athletic Union. She was an administrative assistant for 23 years at Hughes Aircraft and retired in December 1987.

She is survived by son, Randall (Susan) Inouye; grandsons, Curtis and Brandon; granddaughters, Karine, Tamara and Mari; sister, Emiko Tsuji; brother, Hiro (Mary) Hino; brother-in-law, Masaru Inouye; and many nieces and nephews.
One of those nieces, Sandie DeLeon, wrote, “Auntie Haru taught all of the Hino cousins about laughter and living life to the fullest. You’d never know that behind that wonderful smile was a life that held a mother’s deepest heartache. And from that we learned to cherish family and how to be strong.”
