Memorial service for the late Kimiko Hiura, 100-year-old, HI born resident of Los Angeles, who passed away on February 23, 2011, will be held on Saturday, March 12, 1:00 P.M. at Westview Presbyterian Church, 118 1st St., Watsonville.
The epitome of the Nisei woman…strong, brave, hard working, unselfish, dedicated to her children and husband. She and her husband (Frank..passed away in 1976) owned and operated Hiura Evaporating Company, in Watsonville, CA, before and after WWII. She was president of the Nisei and Issei Woman’s Society of Westview Presbyterian Church, speaking both Japanese and English. She was chosen Mother of the Year at the Cherry Blossom Festival in San Francisco in 1987.
She is survived by her children, Lloyd (Naomi) and Dr. Robert Hiura, June (Dr. Fred) Fujihara, Pauline (Harry) Kunimune, Dr. Clarence (Grace), Paul (Beverly), Dr. Daniel (Lynn), and Dr. David (Janis) Hiura; 19 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; sister, Shizuno Toyoshiba; she is also survived by many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
