Mrs. Elaine Kimie Hoshida, 88 year old Hawaii born Nisei, passed away on Monday, October 24, 2011 at El Camino Hospital in Mountain View, California from acute respiratory failure due to pneumonia.
Elaine was born and raised in Hilo, Hawaii, the daughter of Toichi and Urayo (nee Moriwaki) Kimura. She was a long time resident of Los Angeles where she and her husband owned and operated a garment manufacturing business for many years. After her husband died, she continued to run the business by herself until retiring to spend more time with her family and grandchildren. Her latter years were spent living and traveling with her daughter and her family. From 2006-2010 she lived in Tokyo, Japan while her son –in–law was on corporate assignment. Elaine was a warm and bighearted person who touched our lives with her wisdom, humility, and wonderful sense of humor. She was generous to a fault, always believing it was better to give than to receive. Her true treasures in life weren’t material things, but the love of God, family, and friends. She was an inspiration to everyone who knew her and will be greatly missed.
Survived by her loving daughter Akiko (Brian) Minezaki of San Jose, CA, grandchildren John and Anne Minezaki, sisters Doris Takeba, Dorothy (Shigeharu) Hamai, and Mildred (Yasuo) Awakuni, and many other relatives. Predeceased by her beloved husband, Harry Y. Hoshida and son, Milton Y. Hoshida .
A Funeral Mass was held on Saturday, October 29, 2011 at St. Catherine Church in Morgan Hill, CA.
