Memorial service for the late Mrs. Chieko Sugihara, a 91-year-old, Denair, Calif.-born Kibei-Nisei, was held privately at Pasadena Buddhist Temple in Pasadena, under the direction of Fukui Mortuary. A former resident of Salt Lake City and internee of Manzanar Relocation Camp during WWII, she passed away on Dec. 8, 2011 at Methodist Hospital in Arcadia.
She is survived by her daughter, Pamela (Justin) Kindred; grandson, Wyatt Kindred; sister-in-law, Mildred Kakuda of Hawaii. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and other relatives. Preceded in death by her parents, Toyokichi and Kuni Toriihara; beloved husband Eddie Masaharu Sugihara; siblings Koyo, George and Giro Toriihara, and nephew Hisayuki Sueyoshi.
