
The Japanese Chamber of Commerce of Southern California’s 2012 officers’ installation and award presentation will be held at Almansor Court, 700 S. Almansor St., Alhambra, on Sunday, Jan. 22. Reception at 10:30 a.m., luncheon at 11:30 a.m.
The officers to be installed are Haruo Takehana, president; Yoshio Aoki, Yoshiharu Hamano and Kitty Sankey, senior vice presidents; Masao Okamoto, secretary; Howard Miyoshi, treasurer; Grace Shiba, auditor; Merry Jitosho, William Johnson, Ryu Kato, Kazutaka Kishita, Shigeo Nagayama, Tomoko Omura, Eiichiro Takeda, Max Yamaguchi, Ichiro Yamazaki and Eiroku Yoh, vice presidents.
The 2012 Board of Directors will also be introduced.
An organization and three individuals will be recognized for their outstanding service and contributions to the Japanese American community.
The Community Organization Recognition Award (CORA) will go to the writers of Nanka Nikkei Voices, a publication of the Japanese American Historical Society of Southern California.
The Nikkei Spirit Award will go to Joyce Wakano Chinn of the Nisei Week Japanese Festival Executive Committee; Yoshiko Yamaguchi, who volunteers her talents in Japanese folk dancing (minyo) and contemporary dancing to local community organizations; and Bill Watanabe, executive director of the Little Tokyo Service Center and president of the Little Tokyo Historical Society.
