The Little Tokyo Historical Society (LTHS) invites community members to join the celebration of the Year of the Dragon at its annual Shinnenkai celebration.
LTHS plans to hold its monthly meeting at 9:30 a.m., and proceed to the celebration afterwards. The lunchtime Shinnenkai event will take place on Saturday, Feb. 4, beginning at noon at Señor Fish, 422 E. First St. in Little Tokyo. Festivities are scheduled to end at 2 p.m. Admission to the celebration is $10 per person, which will cover food and drink for the attendee and also a surprise gift at the door.
The Shinnenkai event is a time to celebrate the new year, but it also creates a space to reflect on the LTHS’ work over the last year. A slideshow will highlight a range of activities LTHS has engaged in, including a walking tour through historic Chinatown/El Pueblo; a group excursion to Imperial Valley; attendance at local oral history and digital archiving workshops; the sale of “Growing Up in Little Tokyo” calendars; and participation in the “Lil Tokyo Reporter” film that is expected to be released this year.
