WASHINGTON — Rep. Colleen Hanabusa (D-Hawaii) has been named an assistant House whip by Democratic House Whip Steny Hoyer.

“I am pleased to announce that I have appointed Rep. Colleen Hanabusa to serve as an assistant whip,” Hoyer said on Feb. 29. “Rep. Hanabusa has quickly become a leading voice in the Democratic Caucus and will be a strong addition to the whip team. I look forward to working with her as we continue to promote Democrats’ agenda of job creation and strengthening the middle class.”

“It is an honor,” Hanabusa said. “I look forward to working with Congressman Hoyer and the Democratic leadership to further our position on important legislation. I have good relationships with many of my Democratic colleagues, and I think that will certainly be an asset in this position.”

As an assistant whip, Hanabusa will be responsible for building unity across the Democratic Caucus by assisting in counting and moving votes among her House colleagues in support of positions taken by Democratic leadership.
