SAN FRANCISCO — The annual Children’s Day (Kodomo no Hi) Festival will be presented by the Japanese Cultural and Community Center of Northern California on Saturday, May 5, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Japantown Peace Plaza, Post and Buchanan streets in San Francisco.

In recognition of Japan’s national holiday to celebrate children, there will be entertainment (including taiko, classical dance and martial arts), food and hands-on craft activities.

Skating star Kristi Yamaguchi, a major sponsor of the festival, will be on hand to sign copies of her new book for children, “It’s a Big World, Little Pig.” In this sequel to “Dream Big, Little Pig,” Poppy takes part in an international skating competition and learns about different cultures.

The 2012 Northern California Cherry Blossom Queen and Court will be among the volunteers.

The 2012 Children’s Day Festival is made possible with support from The Henri and Tomoye Takahashi Charitable Foundation, The Hatsuro and Amey Aizawa Family Charitable Trust, Japan Airlines, Comcast, Union Bank, Consulate General of Japan, Japanese Community Youth Council (JCYC), Japan Center Malls, and Sakura of America.

Admission is free. For more information, call (415) 567-5505 or visit www.jcccnc.org.
