Chen, a board member of the Hacienda La Puente Unified School District, is running against Republican Rep. Ed Royce, a 20-year veteran, and D’Marie Mulattieri, who has no party affiliation. Currently, Royce represents the 40th Congressional District and Democrat Linda Sanchez represents the 39th.

The new 39th Congressional District covers parts of Orange County (Brea, Fullerton, La Habra, Placentia, Yorba Linda), Los Angeles County (Diamond Bar, Hacienda Heights, La Habra Heights, Rosland Heights, Walnut) and San Bernardino County (Chino Hills, Chino Hills State Park).

The primary will be held on June 5. The top two vote-getters will face off on Nov. 6.
