PASADENA — Cory Shiozaki’s documentary “The Manzanar Fishing Club” opens Friday, May 18, at Laemmle’s Playhouse 7, 673 E. Colorado Blvd., Pasadena.

The film focuses on Japanese American internees who defied the authorities and got a taste of freedom during World War II by slipping out of the Manzanar camp to fish in the Sierra Nevada.

It ended its run at the Regency South Coast Village in Santa Ana, the Landmark Embarcadero in San Francisco and the Landmark Aquarius in Palo Alto on May 10, but will continue at the Landmark Shattuck Cinemas in Berkeley through next week.

Upcoming dates: June 1 at the Landmark Varsity in Seattle and June 8 at the Kahala Theatre in Honolulu and the Kikui Theater in Kihei, Maui.
