SACRAMENTO — Gov. Jerry Brown on June 6 appointed Denise Sagara, 57, of Esparto to the 40th District Agricultural Association, Yolo County Fair Board.

Sagara has been the executive director of the Yolo County Farm Bureau since 1998 and secretary at Sagara Farms Inc. since 1980.

At the Yolo County Farm Bureau, Sagara oversees all aspects of daily operation. She organizes the newsletter, promotes the Ag Education program, handles public relations with the community, and performs many other duties.

The state position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Sagara is a Republican.

The state is divided into 54 District Agricultural Associations. The Yolo County Fairgrounds, established in 1935, are operated by the 40th District on behalf of the state under the Department of Food and Agriculture.

The fairgrounds are made self-supporting through year-round facility rentals and contributions from the horse racing industry.

The 40th DAA is governed by a six-member board. Each member is appointed by the governor and serves a four-year term. Brown appointed Elaine Yamaguchi of Woodland to the board last December.
