A bowling fundraiser to benefit the Kevyn Nojima Foundation takes place from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Beverly Lanes in Montebello. Proceeds will help patients fighting life-threatening cancer and include a scholarship for the North-South All Star Basketball Tournament.
Kevyn Nojima was a trouper! Six years ago, at age 22, he lost the fight to osteogenic sarcoma, bone cancer. Despite almost three years of treatments and chemotherapy, his arm and shoulder were amputated. He learned to do simple tasks, like tying his shoes and putting toothpaste on a toothbrush, single-handedly with determination and courage.
Basketball was Kevyn’s passion. From age 7, he played for the CYC Mustangs, Tigers and Jets. At Schurr High School, he was captain of the basketball team and led them to a championship, earning him first team all league honors.
A coach for three CYC youth teams, he was fortunate to work for the Los Angeles Clippers in the video scouting department.
Kevyn started the foundation with his personal funds. For the past six years, high school scholarships were awarded at the North-South tourney. We continue to look for cancer patients to support.
Help continue Kevyn’s legacy. Donation is $30 and includes bowling, shoes, pizza and unlimited non-alcoholic drinks. Donations are accepted at the Kevyn Nojima Foundation, 1122 S. Victoria Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90019.
