Fukuto Matsuda of Matsuda Hair Styling in Japanese Village Plaza retired on June 29 “after 53 wonderful years in Little Tokyo.” Not a trendy hair stylist, he was a barber with a traditional striped pole in front of his store, and charged far less than the salons. In addition to a haircut, he gave each customer a neck and shoulder massage, a custom in Japan. In a note posted in the window, Matsuda wrote, “Thank you for all the years of friendship and patronage. I will miss you all.” A chiropractic/massage business will continue to operate at the store. I will miss Fukuto. $20 well spent every time ($15 for the cut $5 for the tip).
