STOCKTON — The Stockton Ports will host their 2012 Japanese Heritage Night on Sunday, Aug. 12, at 6:05 p.m. at Banner Island Ballpark during their game against the Modesto Nuts.
The evening will be a celebration of the Japanese culture and baseball heritage in the Stockton/San Joaquin area.
A pregame ceremony will recognize members of the 1962 Lodi JACL California State Champions from Nisei “A” baseball league, and the 1962-1965 Stockton Asahi Sacramento Nisei Champions.
Tossing out one of the first pitches on behalf of the 1962 Lodi JACL team is Dennis Morita. Also throwing out a first pitch is Charles Yagi, who is a Green-White Award recipient from the Emperor of Japan for his work in agriculture.
Throughout the evening, several prominent local groups will perform before and in-between innings, including Stockton Bukkyo Taiko, New School Aikido, Minyo Tanoshimi Kai, Stockton Judo Club, and Bando Junjiro Japanese Classical Dance Group.
“We are very excited to host Japanese Heritage Night at the ballpark this year,” said Ports Marketing Director Jeremy Neisser. “There is a strong history of Japanese American baseball heritage in the San Joaquin area, and we look forward to celebrating it on Aug. 12.”
Tickets for Japanese Heritage Night can be purchased by contacting Neisser at (209) 644-1900. Tickets cost just $7 for field box seats, and must be purchased no later than Aug. 9.
