Reach Out to Japan, a nonprofit group, will present a benefit piano concert for children in Fukushima Prefecture on Friday, Sept. 7, at 7 p.m. (doors open at 6 p.m.) at Union Church, 401 E. Third St. (at San Pedro Street) in Little Tokyo.

The concert will feature composer and pianist Tempei Nakamura (www.tempei.com/japan/), who has been performing on a volunteer basis in northeastern Japan, which was devastated by last year’s earthquake, tsunami and nuclear disaster.

All proceeds from the event will go to music therapy services for children in Soma City, Fukushima.

Nakamura will be joined by Hitoshi Suzuki on cello and a special guest, Olympic figure skater Mirai Nagasu.

Nakamura’s third album, Reach Out to Japan T-shirts designed by Kevin Circosta (http://kevincircosta.com) and raffle tickets will be sold. Raffle prizes include Disneyland Parkhopper tickets for two and gift baskets. Nakamura will sign CDs after the concert.

VIP tickets are $125 per couple, $25 for adults, $10 for children 12 under 12. VIPs receive a CD autographed by Nakamura, front-row seats and a gift bag. Donations are tax-deductible.
