SACRAMENTO — The Asian and Pacific Islander Legislative Caucus and the Asian and Pacific Islander Capital Association held a breakfast reception Aug. 28 at the Ambrosia Café on K Street to honor the departing members of the caucus.

Assemblymembers Mike Eng (D-Monterey Park), Mary Hayashi (D-Hayward) and Fiona Ma (D-San Francisco), who is Assembly speaker pro tem, are termed out. Ma is now running for the State Board of Equalization, and Hayashi for the Alameda County Board of Supervisors.

Assemblymember Warren Furutani (D-Long Beach) decided not to seek a third term when he ran for the Los Angeles City Council. He has been serving as chair of the caucus, with Hayashi as vice chair.

Also in attendance were Assemblymembers Mariko Yamada (D-Davis) and Paul Fong (D-Cupertino), who are running for re-election.

The other members of the caucus are Assemblymembers Richard Pan (D-Sacramento) and Das Williams (D-Santa Barbara) and State Sens. Ted Lieu (D-Torrance), Carol Liu (D-Glendale) and Leland Yee (D-San Francisco). State Controller John Chiang and Board of Equalization member Betty Yee are honorary members.

The event was organized by Andrew Medina and Yong Eo on behalf of the APILC and APICA.

    And she is running again? Well, so are the liars we just saw from Tampa.

  2. How nice to “honor” Mary Hayashi, who leaves office in disgrace, still on 30 months probation, after being arrested in October of 2011 for felony grand theft shoplifting of $2,450 of merchandise. She took a plea deal and admitted her guilt.
    Now that she is running for Alameda County Supervisor, she is telling the voters that the entire incident was just a “absentminded error”.

    Sorry, this a politician we don’t want to “honor”
