MARYSVILLE — On Saturday, Sept. 15, at 2 p.m., the Marysville JACL will host a Congressional Gold Medal Ceremony for local veterans who served in the 100th Infantry Battalion,  442nd Regimental Combat Team or the Military Intelligence Service  during  World War II.

Eighteen persons have submitted their names and have been verified as qualified to receive this award.

Rep. Wally Herger and Dr. Isao Fujimoto will participate in the ceremony.

The ceremony is a follow-up to the November 2011 presentation in Washington, D.C., where the House and Senate leadership from both parties honored representatives of the three units and some 400 Nisei veterans from across the country received replicas of the medal. Since then, several regional ceremonies have been held for those who were unable to go to the nation’s capital.

Rep. Wally Herger (R-Chico) will be present to address the gathering and help present the medals.

Dr. Isao Fujimoto, professor emeritus of ethnic studies at UC Davis, will deliver the keynote  address on the subject of the 100th, 442nd and MIS.

The Beale Air Force Base Honor Guard will be present to post the colors and lead the Pledge of Allegiance.

The event will be held at Marysville Buddhist Church, 125 B St., Marysville.  The public is cordially invited to attend. For more information, contact Roy Hatamiya at (530) 790-0263 or hatamiyas@yahoo.com.
