Some streets in Little Tokyo will be temporarily closed during the 72nd Nisei Week Festival, which will be held from Aug. 11 to 19.
For the Nisei Week Parade on Sunday, Aug. 12, the following streets will be closed between 3 and 10 p.m.:
1. San Pedro Street between First and Second
2. First Street between Alameda and San Pedro
3. Second Street between Alameda and San Pedro
4. Central Avenue between First and Fourth
5. Third Street between Alameda and San Pedro
Los Angeles Street is not on the parade route.
For the Closing Ceremonies and Ondo on Sunday, Aug. 19, First Street between Central and San Pedro streets will be closed between 11 a.m. and 7:30 p.m.
The Nisei Week Foundation regrets any inconvenience to merchants and customers, and will try to allow limited access to some parking facilities as safety allows. However, it must be remembered that people setting up the events do not expect to have traffic on closed streets, so maximum caution is advised when driving. Volunteers will be at the intersections to keep through traffic out of the closed area.
Merchants who expect to take deliveries or need special traffic use in this area during the indicated periods should contact the Nisei Week office at (213) 687-7193 on or before Friday at 4 p.m. before the date of the closure.
