Members and friends within the Japanese American Citizens League (JACL) were saddened to learn of the passing of John Saito, a dedicated JACL leader from Los Angeles.

John served as the regional director for the PSWD/JACL for many years and was a role model and friend to many.

As the regional director, John was very instrumental in helping to develop new leaders within the JACL family and he was admired and respected by all of those who had the privilege of knowing and working with him.

John and his wife, Carol (former office manager for the PSWD/JACL), were always present at numerous JACL events and they made many friends during their years of service to the PSWD/JACL and the Japanese American community in Southern California.

Kenneth Inouye, PSWD/JACL governor, said these words about John: “The entire Inouye family was saddened to hear of John`s passing. He was a close friend and someone who I admired for many years. Although he is no longer with us, his spirit will always be with us and guide in the years ahead.”

The PSWD/JACL extends sincere condolences to John`s wife and entire family at this most difficult time.

The National JACL also sent its condolences to the family and called Saito “a valued and loved member of the JACL family (who) will be remembered as an exemplary leader in the Pacific Southwest District.”
