SANTA MONICA — After a sold-out opening weekend and tickets going fast for the final weekend (Nov. 9-11), the Santa Monica College Theatre Arts Department is adding a performance of “Heart Mountain” at 8 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 11.

The world premiere drama uses dance, martial arts and imagery to tell the story of a Japanese American family in a World War II internment camp. Based on research that included interviews with former internees and their relatives, the play follows the family as it struggles to maintain dignity and cohesion in the face of difficult choices of conscience.

The cast includes Isaac Che, Yilin Hsu-Wentlandt, Kelvin Chiang, Clara So, Alex Valdivia, Casey Masmitsu and Alex Cooper. Commissioned by Theatre Arts Department Chair Perviz Sawoski, who is also the director and choreographer, “Heart Mountain” was written by G. Bruce Smith, SMC’s public information officer and an award-winning playwright.

Showtimes are Friday at 8 p.m., Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. in the SMC Theatre Arts Studio Stage, 1900 Pico Blvd. Tickets are $10 in advance and $13 at the door with a service charge. Tickets can be purchased by calling (310) 434-4319 or by going to www.smc.edu/eventsinfo.
