The 40th annual Little Tokyo Community Health Fair was held at Union Church in Los Angeles on Nov. 3.
Seniors and other residents received free flu vaccines and also visited stations to check blood pressure, BMI (body mass index), dental health, vision, podiatry, and glucose levels.
This year, for the first time, an “emotional health” check or “kokoro no care” was done by social workers from Little Tokyo Service Center.
Although participants were much fewer in number than in 1972, when the health fair was conducted in the middle of Weller Street spanning from First to Second streets, it is an important ongoing service provided by medical professionals, community volunteers and students in health-related majors.
