GARDENA — An exhibit of photos of Nisei World War II veterans will be held at Toyo Photography, 1305 W. Gardena Blvd., Suite A, in Gardena.

The photographer is Gary Toyo Miyatake, grandson of Toyo Miyatake and son of Archie Miyatake. The family has chronicled Japanese American community life for generations, including the wartime internment at Manzanar.

The photos were taken during the Congressional Gold Medal ceremony held earlier this year at the Go For Broke Monument in Little Tokyo to honor Japanese Americans who served in the 100th Infantry Battalion, 442nd Regimental Combat Team, and Military Intelligence Service. This was one of several regional ceremonies organized for the benefit of veterans who could not attend the main ceremony in Washington, D.C. in November 2011.

An opening reception will be held Saturday, Dec. 8, from 5 to 7 p.m.

The exhibit will run until Saturday, Dec. 29. For more information, call (310) 324-8941.
