LAPD Deputy Chief Terry Hara has officially qualified as a candidate for Council District 9 in the upcoming Tuesday, March 5 primary election.

Hara and dozens of grassroots volunteers visited residents and collected the necessary signatures to qualify.

Hara submitted the signatures on Nov. 26, becoming one of the first candidates to qualify, and continues to be the fundraising leader as of the latest reporting period. With the election just under 100 days out, Hara’s campaign continues to pick up steam.

“The community isn’t satisfied with the status quo. I’m looking forward to continuing the conversation about how we can make our streets safer and our community stronger,” said Hara.

Hara is a 32-year veteran of the LAPD, rising through the ranks to his current position as commanding officer of the Personnel and Training Bureau. He has led efforts to implement community-based policing, developed the LAPD’s first Use of Force Handbook, and has been activ
