Tokyo Lobby, one of the San Gabriel Valley’s most popular Japanese restaurants for some 40 years, closed its doors for the last time on the weekend of March 16-17. Owner Yeong Nishiyama said the lack of customers, along with few parking spaces in the shopping center on Las Tunas Drive in San Gabriel and the rise in rent for the space, spelled the end for the longtime eatery. Nishiyama was pleasantly surprised by the turnout of customers on the closing weekend, and attributed it to the fond memories customers had of this restaurant. She also noted the many “teriyaki babies” that have grown up eating at Tokyo Lobby. (Photo by MARIO G. REYES/Rafu Shimpo)
