The 24th annual Invitational Golf Tournament to benefit the Gardena Pioneer Project will be held on Wednesday, June 5, at the Lakewood Country Club, 3101 E. Carson St., Lakewood, with 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. tee times.

Three flights will be offered to both men and women: an A Flight, a B Flight and Callaway (men 27 and up and women 30 and up).

This is the 24th year of the tournament sponsored by Leonard Kim of Cherrystones Restaurant in Gardena. All proceeds go to the Gardena Pioneer Project, which was established in 1970 by Kaneji Oka and Karen Uyekawa to provide special programs for the Issei generation. Over the years, the program has expanded to include the Nisei.

“The Gardena Pioneer Project is a vital organization led by Karen Uyekawa. They work tirelessly to give some quality of life to our senior citizens,” stated Kim. “I’m honored and proud to be part of this effort going on 24 years now. I wish them continued success with their programs and will continue to support this organization.”

The $180 fee per golfer includes green fees, golf carts, and tee bag. Golfer contests include: hole in one, closest-to-the-pin jackpot, and door prizes. Highlights include a special awards feast, door prizes and a “golfers-only drawing” to be held at Cherrystones Restaurant, 15501 S. Vermont Ave., Gardena.

The tournament is limited to 80 golfers selected on a first-come, first-served basis. No reservations will be accepted without entry fees. Applications deadline is May 22.
