VISTA — Vista Buddhist Temple is hosting the annual Hanamatsuri (Flower Festival) Bazaar, celebrating the birth of Buddha, on Saturday and Sunday, April 27-28, from 12 to 6 p.m.
Entertainment and demonstrations will include Japanese candy sculpting (ame zaiku), taiko drumming, chopstick paper origami, Japanese chess (shogi), tea ceremony, Japanese classical and folk dancing, koto and shakuhachi music, a “Faces of Buddha” photo exhibit, brush painting (sumi-e), Okinawan folk songs, a kimono dressing demo, and Shaolin kung fu.
The festival will also feature Japanese food (including beef and chicken teriyaki, vegetarian curry, sushi, tempura, udon, soba, yakisoba, manju and mochi ice cream), a Buddhist discussion and Buddhist bookstore, plants and cut flowers, fresh produce, games for kids, and boutique/craft items.
