Hisaya Joe Hasegawa, 94-year-old, Los Angeles-born WWII veteran, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2013 with his family at his side. He served with honor in the famed 442nd Regimental Combat Team and received a Purple Heart, the Congressional Gold Medal of Honor and a Bronze Star.
He was the loving husband of Setsuko Hasegawa (predeceased) for 59 years and father of Kyu Hasegawa (predeceased). He is survived by his daughters, Kayoko Inohara (predeceased Nobuo Inohara) and Chiemi (Bob) Watanabe; grandchildren, Kristin and Ryan Watanabe; brother-in-law, Tsuyoshi Okamoto (predeceased Tazuko); and other relatives.
Viewing will be held on Friday, May 3, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Fukui Mortuary “Chapel in the Garden,” 707 E. Temple Street, Los Angeles. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 4, 11 a.m. at Higashi Honganji Buddhist Temple, 505 East Third Street, Los Angeles.
